Everyone always says they see this scene as Fili choosing Kili over the quest and how sweet and brotherly it is, which of course it is. But I also thinks it shows the difference between Fili and Thorin and Fili and the rest of the company. It shows Fili knows it isn’t fair to leave a member behind, it shows he puts his kin first, that he will choose love over being a leader and that’s what makes the difference between him and Thorin, he would rather choose those he loves and cares about, his allies, over trying to show his strength and pride, he would choose it over his own honor. That’s why, in my opinion, he would be a better king than Thorin because he would have the love and the loyalty of all the people, with out intentionally trying to get it, without making false promises. Just because he is kind and would go out of the way to treat everyone who was loyal to him in the same way. And he difference between Fili and the company is that they are all there to see Erebor, to take it back, but no he chooses his brother over that because to him Erebor is just a story, his home is with his mother and brother where ever that maybe, i see him as being there to protect his brother, see them home and to him thats more important than taking back Erebor. Where as the company is there for the riches of Erebor and to reclaim what is to them a lost home. All of the company would do what their king told them to do, but not Fili, he obviously doesn’t see Thorin as an almighty king whose orders you have to follow. He is just his uncle, who he is now pretty pissed with so doesn’t really give a crap what he thinks. Another reason why he would make a good king, he doesn’t fear someone or something who has more power than himself if it gets in the way of what he loves and what he deems right. Four for you Fili, you go Fili.

But he’ll never get the chance
